Poker Tables – Poker Supplies, Chips & Playing Cards

The desire to elevate your home game or pub poker game to the next level is most effectively done by providing a unique playing experience. The best way to achieve this is to go out and get some personilised custom poker chips.

However, you should ensure that if you are going to the effort of getting custom poker chips, that you don’t comprimise on quality. Customisation is available on different types of poker chips, but without a doubt ceramic poker chips are one of the best options as they offer unrestricted customisation that’s sure to have you in awe of their beauty. The entire face of both sides of the chip can be customised with edge to edge artwork, aswell as the rolling edge. And what helps set them aside from other chips is the image is actually a part of the chip as it has direct sublimination printing. It is not a sticker or label, and the image cannot be removed.

Ceramic poker chips sound and feel great to play with, and offer such high quality prints, that you will be so proud to bring them out, game after game after game.

If you run your own home game, imagine the look on your mates faces when you push aside the old chips and bring out your very own casino grade custom ceramic poker chips, they will be so jealous.

For leagues the obvious benefit is the higher likelyhood of return players, word of mouth and new players to your games, and in turn higher profits. It is an investment that is sure to pay for itself, and in the end you will be left with beautiful high grade poker chips.

Tiger Woods, who after his recent publicity problems, and being dropped by several big sponsors, turned down a $75 Million deal with the Irish Poker site Paddy Power.

The rejection of the offer was confirmed on Friday and would have seen Tiger earning the large amount over the course of a five year deal.

According to the Irish based company, it made the offer to the disgraced PGA star at a ripe time when other sponsors have completely dropped him following revelations of multiple extra-marital affairs.

The poker site also stated that the deal would have been beneficial for both sides.

Many believed that despite the snub, the online betting website has already attracted plenty of attention from the sporting and betting worlds.

“Paddy Power remains keen to work with Tiger Woods and will reengage with IMG,” the company said in a statement. “An enhanced offer will be made, the details of which will remain confidential.”

It is very unlikely that Woods would ever accept such an offer, and a representative for IMG said that it was not seriously considered. PGA rules prohibit players from promoting gambling companies, among other institutions.

ESPN.com has released the March version of “The Nuts,” its ranking of the top ten poker players in the world. The list does not simply rank the best living players, but rather aims to determine who is currently playing the best poker. All variations of poker are considered – live and online, tournaments and cash games.

This is the fourth month for “The Nuts” and for the fourth month, the seemingly peerless Phil Ivey sits atop the rankings. He did not have any significant live poker tournament success in February, but his cash game prowess is still second to none. While the rankings are a measure of who is the best “right now,” the panel’s focus is not so narrow as to limit evaluation to just a single month. Ivey gets credit for his outstanding results in the months leading up to the most recent vote.

Jason Mercier, one of the best players that the general poker public may have never heard of, moved up one spot to number two. In February, the Floridian made the quarterfinals of the National Heads-Up Poker Championship and placed third in the WPT L.A. Poker Classic’s High-Roller event. When he found out that he had climbed to the second spot, Mercier was excited, telling ESPN.com, “It’s pretty cool [to be No. 2]. I think that I’ve reached as high as I can go. I don’t think I have any chance of beating out Ivey.”

The biggest riser among last month’s top ten was Tom “durrrr” Dwan, who was number eight in February and is now number three. Dwan doesn’t have any notches in his tournament belt recently, but he has been destroying the online cash games, as he usually does. He made $2.7 million in the month leading up to the current vote, much of it off Patrik Antonius in the Durrrr Challenge. Speaking of Antonius, his poor cash results resulted in him dropping in the rankings from second to fifth.

New to “The Nuts” this month are Cole South and Scott Seiver. South has been tearing up cash games to the tune of $2.5 million in profit this year, while Seiver won the L.A. Poker Classic High-Roller event and placed fourth in the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Venetian High-Roller Bounty Shootout.

Dropping from the rankings were Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier and Jeffrey Lisandro, who were ninth and tenth, respectively, in February.

Unconfirmed reports have been circulating around poker message boards that FBI agents have been watching Full Tilt Poker. Full Tilt is the second largest online poker site.

The federal agency apparently has been in contact with players from Washington State, the only state in the USA where gambling laws specifically target online players. Players from the state that have been contacted may have been warned that charges against them are pending.

Some say that the visits from the FBI are not aimed at players specifically but are being done in preparation of the enforcement of the UIGEA, whose regulations will come into force on the 1st of June. Speculations are that the agency is looking more into the financial transactions than players.

Players who were visited unannounced by the agents appeared to confirm this view, saying that the agents were almost exclusively interested in how transactions with Full Tilt worked. Several felt that the enquiries suggested an information-seeking intention, perhaps indicating that a case was being assembled to short-circuit financial transactions with the online poker provider once the UIGEA is in effect.

The type of playing cards you use will have a great impact on your poker game. There’s nothing worse than playing poker with bad cards on a bad playing surface. You should probably use one or two decks of plastic playing cards, rather than paper (plastic coated) cards. Plastic cards will last for months or years compared to lasting only one or two tournaments for paper cards.

Paper (coated plastic) playing cards are made of paper surrounded by a plastic coating. They may be purchased for a dollar or two per deck and are also sold by the dozen. Don’t open the seal of a new deck, leave it in its plastic in the middle of your poker table and let the players open the seal at the beginning of the game. It’s always reassuring to know that the deck of cards is new and (hopefully) unaltered or marked.

Coated paper cards will bend and crease and rip and chip and tear. They will only be ‘good’ for one tournament or less. Paper cards mark easily and don’t bend back into shape. They become dirty and sticky and don’t slide as well as they did when they were new. They cannot be washed when they do become sticky. The colors are bright but fade as the cards wear out. If you spill a beer on a paper card, you might as well reach for a new deck. They can be easily smudged or marked with a fingernail. It is easy to crease or bend a corner.

Plastic playing cards are much more durable and long-lasting than paper cards. They will not crease, rip, or tear as easily as a coated plastic card. Plastic cards will last longer, shuffle better, and slide across the table better. You will never want to play with anything else! Plastic cards may be washed using a damp cloth when they begin to get dirty and stick together. And we all know that accidents do happen. Plastic cards can get wet and soiled and are easy to clean.

Plastic cards are easier to handle and shuffle. They bend back into shape better than a paper card and are much harder to mark or smudge than a paper card. They are more expensive than paper cards but are worth the extra money in the long run. Experienced poker players have a tendency to leave their hole cards on the table and simply bend a portion of the card up to view it – this has a tendency to warp or bow the cards over time. Corners can become curved and cards can appear bowed at the middle. Plastic cards help to minimize this nuisance because they ‘remember’ their shape better than paper cards. Placing a cut card and a weight on top of your unused cards also helps!

Plastic cards slide very easily on just about any playing surface. They feel strange to shuffle at first but once you start using them, you’ll never want to go back to a paper card. Plastic cards may smell when you first open a new deck. The smell will go away with use but you may want to leave your cards spread out on a table for a few days to make the smell go away quicker.

In the long run, plastic playing cards will probably cost you less than paper playing cards. Paper cards will be good for one tournament and barely playable for the second tournament. They may get marked or soiled after only a couple hands! If you use paper cards, plan on buying them by the dozen. On the other hand, plastic playing cards will last dozens of tournaments, with a little cleaning needed now and then. When the cards get a little sticky, simply wipe them clean with a damp towel and let them dry. This will save you money in the long run.
